Symmetry, balance, and materials that evoke connection, but are vulnerable, interest me. This body of work was inspired by a ball of rubber bands and the substructure of the Brooklyn Bridge, where I had a studio from 1997-2000, in DUMBO. I use candle smoke and materials like rubber bands because they evoke the fragility of connection. Oppositional, encaustic gives the feeling of permanence. Color for me is all about memory.
